Description: This striking church in North Portland was among the very first planned and constructed by the Archdiocese of Portland to reflect the liturgical reforms of the Second Vatican Council. Father John Domin oversaw the archdiocese’s Sacred Art Commission at this time and involved the Liturgical Arts Guild, a group of artists who were available to create custom artworks for use in Catholic churches (typically in a modernist, non-figurative vein). Ray Grimm contributed “Tree of Life,” a large stone mosaic on the N Delaware Avenue facade. Sculptor Lee Kelly also produced abstract metal screens for the exterior doors and the sanctuary, and Roy Setziol designed the stained glass windows. The building was demolished in early 2025.
