Description: Containing just over 900 square feet, the Griffith House is a modest residence designed by Pietro Belluschi for Lucy and Arthur Griffith in the early 1950s. The one-bedroom residence was built on Pine Valley Lane in Lake Oswego, and the original owners occupied it for over five decades. Despite its small size, the residence bears the hallmarks of Belluschi and the Northwest Regional Style: simple forms, material palette of milled wood, deeply overhanging eaves, large banks of windows, and flexible interior plan. The low slope of its single-plane roof creates a subtle element of drama and asymmetry.

Facing demolition in the early twenty-first century, the residence was disassembled and donated to Marylhurst University, which reimagined it as a space for education and art exhibition called the Belluschi Pavilion. It has remained standing on the campus following Marylhurst’s closure.
