Description: The congregation of Silverton’s First Christian Church launched a campaign in the early 1960s to acquire new property and construct a new 60,000-square-foot facility. The congregation was able to take possession of city-owned land across the street from its previous building, and the design by architect David Harkness was described in an area newspaper as “western contemporary” in style. The architecture of the sanctuary is defined by its chevron portico, angled walls and posts, and especially the multi-colored stained glass windows. Similar windows originally flanked the doors within the portico but have been replaced.
