Description: The Bradford Island Visitor Center is a relatively subdued but highly functional building situated on Bradford Island, situated between the Bonneville Lock and Dam’s Powerhouse One and spillway. Completed in 1975 (decades after the dam complex was first built), the facility is encircled by a horizontal band of windows that facilitates broad views of the Columbia River gorge. The glazing contrasts with the visitor center’s extensive use of concrete, including on the fish ladders. Painted supergraphics are still present on the walls of the lower fish viewing room.
